After she excelled in the design of the architectural masterpiece that won several international awards for the head office of Trend Micro, one of the largest information technology firms worldwide, a specific detail in that project stood out as a revolutionary iconic landmark, great Designer and Architect Dalia Sadany has creatively designed a hand-made abstract world map from wrought iron.
This artistic made by Egyptians, are from masterpiece has been manufactured manually by Egyptian artisans with so much meticulousness and professionality that Trend Micro Co. made has requested the same Egyptian art piece to be re-manufactured in several of its branches worldwide.
The design of this map is an augmentation of the main concept of the design, the use of deconstruction lines and innovative emphasis of minimalism. The abstract showpiece is manufactured from waste scrap iron and it was .It was Sadany’s bold message emphasizing on the significance of neglected recycling whether environmentally or economically and that beauty could emerge from recycled materials with the eye of a designer and the skill of artisans and professional craftsmen. This skillfulness resulted in a masterpiece proudly bearing the words "Made in Egypt."
After receiving praise for the design of the abstract map for Trend Micro's head office in Cairo, Sadany started to design another map for the company's branch in Australia. The company had to send specs of the background wall on which the sizable heavy art piece will be installed. With a weight of over 75kg a study was needed for the fixation of the map especially that the construction of that wall was different than its counterpart in Egypt.
This task was far from easy, as Sadany had to conduct a study to consider the weight of the map and mechanical methods for installation bearing in mind all possible factors in a possible hazardous situation in case the fixation was not safely executed. Other parameters were also needed to be taken into careful consideration such as the distributed lighting outlets and their connection. Sadany also made a video and a catalogue to explain how to install the map.
The modernity and uniqueness of this art piece was a core reason in its appeal to several local and multi-national public. It has transcended the conventional understanding of a handmade Egyptian artistic product vastly known merely for being Pharaonic or Islamic. Sadany believes that Egypt has creative young designers with brilliant ideas to be manufacture and exported, so she calls for highlighting and stressing on the use of recycling in the industry of Egyptian handcrafts. Sadany urges the Egyptian government to open the door to means of manufacturing and exporting via facilitating procedures and taxation through forming a department for handcrafts in at the Ministry of Investment for uncomplicated management of this sector.
The pioneer Architect, Sadany has registered this map as intellectual property rights for a 100% Egyptian product. Sadany currently seeks to have an export number so that she can market the product and export it all over the world, in addition to exporting other similar hand-made products, with such ambitious designers, this industry can definitely contribute to increasing the national income.
